Diet schmiet – I’ve got carbs to digest and babies to snuggle!

I’m sitting here… Snuggling with my kiddos watching “The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown”.  I”ve blown my diet today, doing really well  until dinner when the fish and rice I cooked for the kids looked way more appetizing than my meal-replacement-shake.  And then eating the fish just screamed for a glass of white wine.  And then I was still hungry.  And two handfuls of Cheez-its later… it’s a night for grace and mercy on myself.  You ever have those nights?  When the diet goes out the window and the laundry doesn’t get done and you know what, you just. don’t. care.  Yep, that’s me tonight!  And its ok… back on track tomorrow… it’s all good.  After all, I’ve got sweet kiddos and Charlie Brown on the tv – who could ask for more?  Oh yeah, on to the Hodgepodge!

1. October 21, 2015 is Back to the Future Day. Did you see the movie? The sequels? In the second film, Doc takes Marty into the future to prevent Marty’s future son from making a mistake. They leave 1985 and land on a ‘skyway’ on October 21st, 2015. So tell us, what were you doing in the fall of 1985?

In the fall of 1985 I was 12 years old.  Ironically, I was just interviewed on a Christian podcast and they asked me what four words I would tell my 12-year-old-self… I replied “It’s all worth it!” Enough said!

2.  If time travel were possible, would you want to go to the future? The past?

I wouldn’t want to go into the future – much more fun to see how things happen as they are meant to, and honestly, might be kinda scared to see what I would find.    But the past, that would be cool – I would love to meet my ancestors, see how my parents grew up, etc.

3. We’re not flying cars, but some of the technology imagined in the 80’s film has indeed come to pass in real life 2015-flat screen TVs on the wall, tablets, fingerprint recognition, video conferencing, online banking, 3-D movies, motion controlled video games, drone cameras, and smart glasses (Google glass).  Do you worry technology is growing at a rate so fast we’ll soon be unable to keep up with it’s demands? Do you think the Internet does more harm than good?

I can’t imagine a world without the Internet, and I’ll admit I love the instant access we have to find out answers to our questions… not having to look it up at a library (which was subject to how good the library was, and how up to date their books were) And Siri, well, she makes my scheduling easier, faithful assistant that she is.  As much as I hate how dependent we are on our instant technology, I am in favor of it for the most part.

4. Your favorite dish prepared in a slow-cooker? Your favorite fast food?

Slow cooker – fajitas!  Take sliced beef, place in crockpot with sliced onions, bell peppers, and olive oil with garlic and seasoning.  Let cook for 4-6 hours.  yum.  Serve with tortillas, guacamole, sour cream, etc.

Fast food – Chik-fil-A.  Yum.

5. No time like the present, down time, face time, pressed for time, in the nick of time, make time, mark time, or just in time…which timely saying most relates to your life right now?

Make time!  My eldest is a senior in high school – I’m finding myself trying to enjoy this time with him, as it passes so quickly.  And enjoy my other two kiddos still at home.  Sigh.

6. Tell us about a place you went as a child or younger person that’s no longer there or is now something else. How does that make you feel?

It’s weird, but the two things that come to mind are both items from our local mall – the Bob’s Big Boy and the play zone at the Santa Anita Mall.  Lets see if i can find Google images for them…

Yep, here’s Bob’s Big Boy

But nope, can’t find the playzone- the strange weird wood play structures in the Santa Anita Mall – didn’t make much sense then, but they are still a part of my growing up… I was kinda sad when they were replaced by a giant carousel.  But maybe that’s also because I didn’t ever care for carousels…

7. Describe your comfort zone.

Right here.  Right now.  On the couch with my kiddos.  Cracking up as the show changes and my son takes the remote and changes it saying “I don’t think this is something you should watch mom!”  (He’s 11!)  Earlier today, having coffee with a friend, praying and laughing together.  Basically, surrounded by those I love, being so grateful for each and every one, being challenged in my work, supported and loved by my husband.  God is good.  Life is good.  Bless.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

If you are a mom… or work with children… or know anyone with children… you’ll get a kick out of these comics by Brian Gordon!  Enjoy the laughs!

Well hello there! Thanks for stopping by! I'm a God loving, glass-is-half-full kind of woman who loves coffee, good chocolate, and walks on the beach. I've got three amazing kiddos and a hubby of 21 years who all keep me on my toes. An Air Force family for 14 years, we are now living in southern CA and slowly adjusting to life back in the "civilian" world. Our adventures are far from over, and life is not always easy, but we're in this together and God's got the ultimate plan, so who can ask for anything better than that?

  1. Stopping by from Wednesday Hodgepodge. You can never go wrong with Charlie Brown. My son (13) loves Charlie Brown. He has been a fan for several years. I agree that it would be fun to go back and visit our ancestors. We could learn so much from them. Have a blessed day!

  2. Oh Bob’s Big Boy! We had one in our town growing up too, and it was a real treat to make a stop there after Sunday evening church. My dad loved their strawberry pie, and we’d go for dessert. Gosh such a silly thing that makes me feel a little teary thinking about my dad. He truly enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. We make things complicated sometimes. Nice to see you in the HP!
